Montevidub Sound System

MONTEVIDUB is a Jamaican-style handmade sound system, recording studio, and record label dedicated to Dub music (a reggae subgenre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1970s and was exported to England). Jamaican-style sound systems consist of precision-built speaker cabinets stacked together to emphasize bass frequencies, creating an immersive, three-dimensional sound—an ideal setting for Reggae and Dub, given their heavy emphasis on the low end.

We are a collective of Dub producers, musicians, singers, and artists. We came together driven by a desire to recreate our sound in an original way, mirroring the movement that emerged on both islands—where up-and-coming artists lacked access to radio or mainstream media and instead took their music to the streets via sound systems, creating new cultural spaces.

We built this project out of a need to self-manage our events and deliver high-fidelity sound with powerful acoustic impact.
